U.S. engineering and construction services company McDermott International has been awarded a sizeable contract from a Middle East customer to carry out front-end engineering and design (FEED) work for offshore riser platform topsides.

McDermott said on Monday that the scope of the deal included the design of two offshore riser platforms, as well as associated brownfield integration modifications to existing facilities, which include the decommissioning of existing assets.

According to the engineering firm, the FEED contract will be fully executed from its Middle East offices.

Work on the project will begin immediately, and the contract award will be reflected in McDermott’s second-quarter 2020 backlog.

As for the financial side, the company did not provide any specific details except for stating that the deal was ‘sizeable’ which in McDermott terms means it is a deal worth between $1 and $50 million.

McDermott recently won several new deals the most recent of which was for four liquefied petroleum gas spheres for an energy infrastructure project in the Caribbean region.

The scope of the project includes the engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction of four LPG spheres each measuring about 26.8 meters in diameter, with a nominal capacity of 63,100 barrels and pressure of around 20 bar.

The other notable deal came in March when the company won a contract from BHP for pre-FEED services on a floating production unit (FPU) that will be installed at the Trion field offshore Mexico. Both deals were referred to as sizeable.
