Oil and gas company Aker BP has awarded further work to the Odfjell Drilling-owned Deepsea Stavanger rig, scheduled to be done upon the rig’s return from a gig in South Africa with Total.

Aker BP and Odfjell Drilling have signed a contract that commits further work to Deepsea Stavanger under the existing frame agreement, the rig owner said in an update on Tuesday.

The initial contract scope is five wells and has an estimated contract value of up to $44 million, plus incentives.

The contract is set to start latest by end of 3Q 2021, back-to-back with Deepsea Stavanger’s return from South Africa.

Namely, the Deepsea Stavanger is currently under contract with French oil major Total, working on the Luiperd-1X well, the second exploration well on Block 11B/12B offshore South Africa following the Brulpadda discovery in February 2019.

The well was spud in late August 2020 following the rig’s arrival from Norway to South Africa.

Drilling and evaluation of the well are expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2020.
